Goodbye to City Manager Wrede - Interim City Manager Hired

Monday, December 8th was City Manager Walt Wrede’s last Homer City Council meeting. Members of the public, council, and staff took turns sharing memories and praise for Wrede who has spent 12 years at the helm of the City of Homer. Wrede’s last day as City Manager is December 31, 2014.

The search for a new city manager is ongoing. In the meantime, Marvin Yoder from the Alaska Municipal League Interim City Manager Program will come on to serve as interim city manager. Mr. Yoder will work for the City for no more than 6 months, depending on when a permanent manager can be hired and brought on board.

Mr. Yoder has 22 years in municipal management. He is currently serving as the Interim City Manager for the City of Fort Yukon. Previous posts include Deputy Administrator for the City of Wasilla, Seward Interim City Manager and 10 years in Galeena as City Manager. Mr. Yoder comes highly recommended by outgoing Manager Wrede: “Marvin is a very experienced and proven municipal manager. He has done excellent work wherever he has been.”

Mr. Yoder will be spending time in the second half of December getting to know the different City departments. He starts full time after the first of the year.
