Economic Development
Long known as the "Halibut Fishing Capital of the World", Homer is also nicknamed "the end of the road", and more recently, "the cosmic hamlet by the sea". Homer was incorporated in 1964 as a first-class city and is located four hours south of Anchorage. A popular destination for tourists, Alaskans and folks from the "lower 48" alike enjoy being surrounded by the majesty of beautiful mountains, volcanoes, the ocean, and a bustling harbor along with all there is to offer.
