Fire Department Volunteer Opportunities

In 2016 the members of the Homer Volunteer Fire Department responded to 637 calls, of which 557 were ambulance calls (87%). There were 8 responses to structure fires,  and 21 calls for wildland fires. In total members (volunteers and staff) contributed 6,085 hours, including responding to calls, attending training and providing public education and prevention programs to the public.

It is estimated that the “value” of volunteer hours for the State of Alaska is $21.96/hour, which means that HVFD members contributed more than $133,627 in direct services to the community.  This does not take into account the countless hours on-call and being available to respond 24/7/365.
