Summer@HPL has activities just for teens (ages 12-18)!

Summer@HPL is a FREE eight-week summer program for all ages sponsored by the library and Friends of the Homer Public Library. We offer opportunities for kids, teens, and adults to READ, PLAY, DO, and DISCOVER at the library and beyond! Learn the details HERE.

3D Avatars: Create & Animate Your Own! ages 12+

“During summer vacation I ... learned the art of animation!” Instructor Amanda Foley will show you how to make an avatar - of yourself, a creature, your friend, or your mom - using Blender (open source software you’ll be able to continue using after the class from home). And the fun doesn’t stop at creating your avatar! You’ll learn how to dress it, make it move, and more!

Registration is required (by phone, in person, by email, or via Facebook). This class will meet on six Wednesdays, 6/6, 6/13, 6/20, 6/27, 7/11, and 7/18.

Through the Night Lens Photo Contest ages 12+

Are you an aspiring photographer? What does night mean to you here in Homer? Submit your original 'Night' photo to the Through the Night Lens Teen Show at the library. Multiple entries are allowed.

Entries are due with entry form by Saturday, June 16 at 5pm. Library visitors will vote for their favorites until June 27. Winners will be announced Saturday, June 30, and two $25 prizes will be awarded.

What happens when the Zombies come to Homer? Will you be ready?

The first line of defense is camouflage. Join Brenda Romanko and learn face painting techniques to disguise your identity in the event of a Zombie attack.

'Brick by Brick' LEGO® Contest all ages

Use your imagination and your LEGOs® to dream up a scene, thing, person, creature or....? Contest rules are available HERE or at the library.

Entries are due Monday, July 9th, by 5pm. They will be on display at the library all week! Find out if you created the winning masterpiece at the award ceremony on Saturday, July 14, at 5pm.

Own the Story: Flash Fan Fiction age 12+

Have you ever imagined a different ending for one of your favorite books? How about what happens to the characters long after the action ends? Here’s your chance to share your vision! Write a short story (350-500 words) with characters from your favorite novel.

One winning entry will be announced on Friday, July 20 and the author will receive a $25 Homer Bookstore gift certificate.

Your name, age, phone #, and email must accompany stories. Submissions are due by email or in person at the library by Monday, July 16, at 5pm. Entries can be emailed to erin@friendshomerlibrary.org.
