SUBJECT: CREDIT CARD FEE

Background
During the Port and Harbor Commission’s December 15, 2010 regular meeting, the commission passed a motion to recommend to City Council to create an ordinance that allows Port and Harbor to charge a percentage fee to offset the cost of the fees to accept credit cards.
This motion is a response to the rising costs of credit card expenses to the Port enterprise.
Recommendation
The question to consider is: can the Port and Harbor apply a credit card fee to offset these costs? Request from Finance information regarding the negotiations for credit card fees for 2011 and the legality of the commission’s proposal.
