Crittenden Drive-Waddell Street Paving Project

On June 6 bids were opened for the Crittenden-Waddell Road Paving Project.  This work was advertised in the Homer News and the Peninsula Clarion during the month of May per the City’s Procurement Policy. 

This project consists of paving and drainage improvements on Crittenden Drive and Waddell Street.  This project is the combination of two Special Assessment Districts (SAD), Crittenden Drive and Waddell Street, and is funded using HART funds and property owner assessments in accordance with the HART Policy Manual.

Four responsive bids were received: 

Arno Construction, Inc   $ 598,219.00
North Star Paving & Construction $ 694,148.50
Alaska Road Builders, Inc.  $ 719,899.00
Steiner’s North Star Const., Inc.  $ 687,943.83

  Engineer’s Estimate   $ 467,585.00  

In reviewing the bid tabulation, the engineer’s estimate was found to be in error regarding several unit prices. The low bidder is qualified and his bid is reasonable. Public Works recommends award of the low bid.

Recommendation:

City Council pass a resolution awarding  the construction contract for the Crittenden Drive-Waddell Street Paving project in the amount of $598,219 to Arno Construction, Inc of Homer, Alaska and authorizing the City Manager to execute all appropriate documents necessary to complete this project.
