Memorandum 16-005

TO:                       MAYOR WYTHE AND HOMER CITY COUNCIL

FROM:                 JO JOHNSON, CITY CLERK

DATE:                  JANUARY 5, 2016

SUBJECT:         TRAVEL AUTHORIZATION FOR COUNCILMEMBER ZAK TO TRAVEL TO ANCHORAGE TO ATTEND THE ALASKA HOUSING SUMMIT JANUARY 6, 2016.

The City of Homer was invited to attend the Alaska Housing Summit in Anchorage on January 6, 2016. The one-day summit hosted by Governor Bill Walker and Lt. Governor Byron Mallott brings together Alaskans from across the state to identify the barriers and seek budget-neutral solutions to the numerous housing challenges facing Alaskans. From homelessness to home financing in rural areas, the problems are pretty well defined, but solutions can come from experts all across the state. Leaders from this sector are invited to participate in break-out sessions throughout the day and will come together in the afternoon to share progress.

Councilmember Zak has agreed to travel on behalf of the City. Due to the late invitation and council meeting schedule it is necessary to request travel authorization after the fact.

Cost estimates for the one day of travel include round trip airfare from Homer to Anchorage at $250.00 and reimbursement for meals.

For FY 2016 Council budgeted $4,500 for transportation and $2,500 for subsistence. To date $0 has been expended from Transportation Acct. No. 100.0100.5236, leaving a balance of $4,500; and $0 has been expended from Subsistence Acct. No. 100.0100.5237, with a balance of $2,500 remaining.

RECOMMENDATION:

Discuss the travel and if approved allocate funds for transportation and meals.

Fiscal Note: Mayor and Council 2016 Budget: 100.0100.5236 - Transportation: $4,500.00 and 100.0100.5237 - Subsistence: $2,500.00.
