City of Homer Available to Present to your Group on the Natural Gas HSAD

By now you have heard; natural gas is coming to Homer. However, how many homes and businesses in the City of Homer have access to natural gas is currently being put before property owners.

Homer City Council initiated a city-wide Homer Special Assessment District (HSAD) in July of 2012 that would finance the construction of a natural gas distribution system in City streets brining access to natural gas to 90% of Homer lots. The distribution system will cost each property owner a maximum of $3,283 (financed over 10 years). Property owners have until January 25th to turn in an objection form registering their objection to the Natural Gas HSAD. If 50% or more of property owners object, council cannot proceed with the improvement.

The City’s task now is to educate the public about the Natural Gas HSAD and the decision before property owners. There is a website with information on the gas line and the HSAD, www.cityofhomer-ak.gov/naturalgas and a hotline for natural gas questions, (907)-435-3198.  The City of Homer would like to extend the offer to present information on the Natural Gas HSAD to groups or organizations and be available for questions they may have.

Please contact Katie Koester at (907)-435-3101 if you would like to schedule a presentation.  Presentations should be scheduled before the objection period to the Natural Gas HSAD closes, January 25, 2013.
