ORDINANCE 10-16

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOMER, ALASKA, AMENDING HOMER CITY CODE SECTION 1.43.010 TO CHANGE THE NAME OF THE COMMUNITY SCHOOLS PROGRAM TO COMMUNITY RECREATION PROGRAM.

WHEREAS, The City Council with Ordinance 06-39(S)(2) approved the creation of the Community Schools Division within the Department of Administration on July 24, 2006; and

WHEREAS, The majority of classes offered by the Community Schools program are recreational; and

WHEREAS, The Community Recreation Coordinator is beginning to integrate recreational programs with the Public Works Department Parks and Recreation program; and

WHEREAS, The Community Recreation Coordinator is seeking funding and grant opportunities for recreational programs and the title of Community Schools creates confusion regarding the mission of the program.

NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY OF HOMER ORDAINS:

Section 1. Homer City Code Section 1.43.010 is hereby amended to read as follows:

1.43.010 Department of Administration. The Department of Administration is created which shall be headed by the City Manager or his designee. Within this department shall be the City Clerk and such other personnel as may be necessary to provide such services as personnel administration, City-wide planning, zoning and platting, permitting and inspection; services such as parks, recreation, Community Recreation Program, and library programs; administration of the Homer Advisory Planning Commission, the Homer Advisory Parks and Recreation Commission, the City of Homer Port and Harbor Advisory Commission, and the Library Advisory Board; major capital projects administration; other services or programs as designated by the City Manager or requested by the City Council The department may be subdivided into divisions with their own supervisor as deemed necessary.

Section 2. This ordinance is of a permanent and general character and shall be included in the City Code.
