ORDINANCE 10-39(A)

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOMER, ALASKA, AMENDING THE FY 2010 OPERATING BUDGET BY APPROPRIATING $169,000 FROM THE INSURANCE SETTLEMENT MONIES AND WATER RESERVE FUNDS FOR THE PURPOSE OF DEMOLISHING THE EXISTING WATER TREATMENT PLANT BUILDING.

WHEREAS, The roof of a portion of the old water treatment plant building collapsed in the Spring of 2010 and the City will receive monies from the insurance policy in affect at the time; and

WHEREAS, The Public Works Department and the Fire Department agree that repairing the damage would not be in the best interest of the City; and

WHEREAS, The existing structure is 35 years old, does not meet code, and is poorly insulated; and

WHEREAS, Demolition of this facility will reduce Water Enterprise Fund operating expenses; and

WHEREAS, The cost of demolition can be paid for utilizing insurance settlement monies.

NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY OF HOMER ORDAINS:

Section 1. The Homer City Council hereby amends the FY 2010 Operating Budget by appropriating $146,500 from the insurance settlement monies and $22,500 from the Water Reserve Account for the purpose of demolishing the old water treatment plant building.

Section 2. The City Manager is authorized to acquire competitive bids for the demolition work, execute the demolition contract, and execute all appropriate documents required to accomplish the work outlined in Memo #10-101.

Section 3. This is a budget amendment ordinance, is temporary in nature, and shall not be codified.
