ORDINANCE 15-45(S)

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOMER, ALASKA, AMENDING THE FY 2015 OPERATING BUDGET BY APPROPRIATING FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF $3,810.45 TO PURCHASE REFURBISHED TOUCH SCREEN VOTING UNITS FOR THE CITY’S TWO PRECINCTS.

               WHEREAS, In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) the City of Homer wishes to provide appropriate aids and services so that qualified voters with disabilities can independently participate in the voting process; and

               WHEREAS, The Touch Screen Voting Units are intended for those voters who are blind, disabled or who may not read proficiently; however, any voter may vote on the touch screen voting unit if the voter’s name appears on the precinct register; and

               WHEREAS, The City of Homer has the opportunity to purchase three refurbished Touch Screen Voting Units at a reasonable price for the City’s two precincts; and

               WHEREAS, Due to the possibility of a malfunction with either precinct’s Touch Screen Voting Unit it is imperative to have a spare unit on hand; and

WHEREAS, It would be beneficial for the City of Homer to own the Touch Screen Voting Units to eliminate the need to depend on the State of Alaska for the units and avoid costly shipping charges.

               NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY OF HOMER ORDAINS:

Section 1. The Homer City Council hereby amends the FY 2015 Operating Budget by appropriating $3,810.45 for the purchase of three refurbished Touch Screen Voting Units.
