
Karen Hornaday Park was awarded the 2011 Facility Excellence Award. This is a state-wide award that recognizes significant new projects, major renovations, or long-term performance as a flagship of recreation. Karen Hornaday Park was recognized for the significant improvements made over the summer including a new state of the art playground and upgrades to the baseball fields. The award recognizes the contributing organizations that made the improvements possible: Homer Playground Project (HoPP), Homer Little League, and the City of Homer.
The City of Homer Parks and Community Recreation was recognized with the 2011 Outstanding Organization award. This award recognizes the agencies, departments, and organizations that make great contributions to their community and to the improvement of recreation in Alaska. Clubs, federal and state agencies, municipal departments, and not-for-profit organizations are eligible. City of Homer Parks and Community Recreation was recognized for the outstanding job it does promoting recreation and lifelong learning in the Community.
