Mallory Mintz, A high school junior from upstate New York, has nominated Homer as the Ultimate Fishing Town in the WFN third annual Ultimate Fishing Town contest.
In an email to the City of Homer trying to spread the word about Homer's nomination Malloy wrote "I was so moved by the beauty and community feel of your town that I couldn't think of a better way to help. I would Love Homer to win and receive the $ 25,000 first place winnings, but I need more community involvement. I was hoping you could spread the word via social media, and word of mouth. We need more nominations!"
The nomination process runs through April 15. Go to www.ultimatefishingtown.com to nominate a town. If a town is already nominated, it can receive additional support through more comments, photos and videos. The winning town receives $25,000 to spend on a fishing related cause, and bragging rights of course.
In nominating Homer for the contest, Malloy wrote:
I’m not an Alaska native; I’m from upstate New York — right on Lake Ontario — but I consider the fishing hole at the awe-inspiring Homer to be one of the best places to fish in the country.
It’s actually a man-made lakelet, which is stocked every year with silver, pink and king salmon, which, when they eventually return from their lagoon-hiatus, are ready to be caught by sport fisherman.
