City Road Maintenance

CITY ROAD MAINTENANCE
LEVEL OF SERVICE DEFINITIONS

Urban Road Maintenance - Below are the items of work that comprise full level of service for road maintenance on streets that meet City standards. These roads generally receive first priority.

• Grading of gravel roads (3-4 times a year)
• Patching/crack sealing of paved roads; asphalt resurfacing as needed
• Repair of damaged concrete curbs and sidewalks (as required)
• Sweeping of paved roads, dust control on gravel roads
• Winter sanding of road surface
• Snow plowing (within 24 hours, 3” accumulations)
• Ditch pulling and cleaning
• Storm drain/culvert cleaning
• Traffic control, street light, and street name sign maintenance
• Thawing of frozen culverts
• Brush cutting in street right-of-way

Rural Road Maintenance - Below are items that comprise the level of service for roads that do not meet City standards but have been determined to deserve a reduced level of service. These roads take second priority.

• Grading of gravel roads (2 times a year, min.)
• Dust Control application (on an “as available” basis)
• Snow plowing and sanding (normally within 24 hours)
• Traffic control and street name sign maintenance
• Limited drainage maintenance including creation of roadside ditches, pulling/cleaning of existing ditches, installation of culverts, and erosion control measures to improve road subgrade conditions (on a “as time permits” basis).
• Thawing of frozen culverts
• Brush cutting in street right-of-way
• Limited repair/improvement of gravel road subgrade failure (on an “as time permits” basis).
