City Campgrounds

City of Homer Alaska Official Website

The city of Homer’s campgrounds on the Homer Spit are open April 1st through October 31st.  For further information please email us at  camping@cityofhomer-ak.gov

All City-owned campsites are first-come, first-serve. We do not take reservations for any City-owned campsites.

Karen Hornaday Campground is closed for the 2024 Season.

Pay kiosks and text-to-pay options are available when registering at Fishing Hole Campground, Mariner Campground, and West Side Tent Campground

Registration & Payment Instructions - Pay Kiosk

  1. Enter in license plate number. If you have an RV that will be staying and an additional car that comes and goes, please enter the plate number for the RV that will be in the site more often. If you are traveling by foot or on bike, please use XYZ123 as you license plate number.
  2. Select payment method. Machines accept cash or credit payments. For cash transactions, the pay kiosk will not make change so please use exact change. Checks are not accepted.
  3. Place your printed permit in one of the clear bags at the registration bulletin board if it will be exposed to the elements. Place this envelope clearly on display in your vehicle window, your campsite post (if provided), or zip-tied to your tent.
  4. If there are problems with the pay kiosk, please let the Camp Host know or notify the Harbormaster's Office at 907-235-3160.

Registration & Payment Instructions - Text to Pay

  1. Locate the code for your campsite and text that code to 25023:
    • Mariner Park Campground - CAMPHMR1
    • Fishing Hole Campground - CAMPHMR2
    • Tent West Camping - TENTHOMER
  2. You will receive a text message response with a link to pay virtually for your site.
  3. When the site asks you to enter in license plate number:
    • If you have an RV that will be staying and an additional car that comes and goes, please enter the plate number for the RV that will be in the site more often. If you are traveling by foot or on bike, please use XYZ123 as you license plate number.
  4. If there are problems with the text to pay system, please pay using the pay kiosk, please let the Camp Host know or notify the Harbormaster's Office at 907-235-3160.

With over 80 sites on the Homer Spit, the Fishing Hole Campground is a popular destination for campers.

At the base of the Homer Spit is Mariner Park, offering great day-use and camping opportunities.

Located across Homer Spit Road from the Fishing Hole and the halibut hook statue, this tent area offer quiet beach camping on the west side of the Homer Spit to watch the sunsets and otters!  

There are two city maintained dump stations available in Homer that open as soon as weather permits and close in the fall once it begins to freeze.
