RESOLUTION 10-51(A)

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOMER, ALASKA, AMENDING RESOLUTION 10-45 TO DESIGNATE COAL POINT PARK OR MARINER PARK AS THE APPROVED LOCATION OF THE PROPOSED JEAN KEENE MEMORIAL SCULPTURE.

WHEREAS, The City Council recently adopted Resolution 10-45 entitled “ A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOMER, ALASKA, ACCEPTING A PROPOSAL FROM BRAD HUGHES TO CREATE A JEAN KEENE MEMORIAL SCULPTURE AND GRANTING PERMISSION TO LOCATE THE SCULPTURE ON CITY LAND ADJACENT TO THE SEAFARER’S MEMORIAL”; and

WHEREAS, Since Resolution 10-45 was adopted, it has come to the Council’s attention that locating this sculpture next to the Seafarer’s Memorial may not be optimal or consistent with the intent and purpose of the Seafarer’s Memorial; and

WHEREAS, The Council finds it desirable to designate a new location for the proposed Jean Keene Memorial Sculpture; and

WHEREAS, The City, the sculptor, and Jean Keene family members have been working to identify a new location to recommend to the Council; and

WHEREAS, The alternatives being considered and evaluated include Coal Point Park, End of the Road Park, Mariner Park, and an observation point on the Spit Trail across from Mariner Park.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Homer City Council hereby amends Resolution 10-45 and designates Coal Point Park or Mariner Park as the approved location of the proposed Jean Keene Memorial Sculpture; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that with the exception of the sculpture location, all other elements of Resolution 10-45 are reaffirmed and incorporated herein including the terms and conditions of the proposal, specifically, the design, materials, maintenance, repair, and the requirement that the sculptor work closely with the Public Works Department.

PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Homer City Council this 14th day of June, 2010.
