RESOLUTION 11-014
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOMER, ALASKA, DIRECTING THE ADMINISTRATION TO ISSUE A REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS TO IDENTIFY POTENTIAL NEW TENANTS FOR THE OLD HOMER INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL (ALSO KNOWN AS THE HOMER EDUCATION AND RECREATION CENTER) AND REQUESTING THAT THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ADVISORY COMMISSION SERVE AS THE INITIAL PROPOSAL REVIEW COMMITTEE.
WHEREAS, The Homer City Council directed the Economic Development Advisory Commission (EDC) to explore options for the reuse of the Old Homer Intermediate School, as expressed in Resolution 10-86(A); and
WHEREAS, The EDC has gathered information about the Old Intermediate School and several members made a tour of the building; and
WHEREAS, The EDC has also heard from some members of the public about potential new uses for the building, but realizes there may be other organizations that are not aware that the City is looking for new tenants; and
WHEREAS, At its regular meeting of January 10, 2011, the EDC approved a draft Request for Proposals (RFP) to solicit detailed proposals that could be evaluated according to specified criteria, and recom¬mended a timeline for advertising the RFP, reviewing proposals, and selecting new tenant(s).
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Homer City Council directs the City Manager and City Clerk to issue a Request for Proposals to identify potential new tenants for the Old Homer Intermediate School.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council requests that the Economic Development Advisory Commission serve as the initial review committee for the proposals that are submitted under this RFP and make a recommendation to Council by April 14, 2011.
