RESOLUTION 12-085

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOMER, ALASKA, SUPPORTING THE PURSUIT OF A RURAL HEALTH NETWORK DEVELOPMENT PLANNING PROGRAM GRANT FROM HEALTH RESOURCES AND SERVICE ADMINISTRATION FOR THE MOBILIZING FOR ACTION THROUGH PLANNING AND PARTNERSHIPS (MAPP) OF THE SOUTHERN KENAI PENINSULA HEALTH NETWORK.

 WHEREAS, Mobilizing for Action through Planning & Partnerships (MAPP)of the Southern Kenai Peninsula (SKP) community efforts have been underway since November, 2008; and

 WHEREAS, The mission of MAPP of the SKP is to improve community health and quality of life through community strategic planning and collective impact; and

 WHEREAS, MAPP of the SKP offers a direct benefit to individuals, families, organizations, and businesses within the City of Homer and Southern Kenai Peninsula; and

 WHEREAS, MAPP of the SKP has primarily been funded through Service Area Board funds to assist in conducting a Community Health Needs Assessment and to develop partnerships and workgroups to address priority health outcomes; and

 WHEREAS, Health Resources and Service Administration (HRSA) funds would provide administrative costs that are otherwise difficult to procure; and

 WHEREAS, HRSA funds would be utilized to formalize the MAPP of SKP health network and carry out strategic planning activities in order to (a) achieve MAPP of SKP network efficiencies; (b) expand access to, coordinate, and improve the quality of essential health care services; and (c) strengthen our rural health care system as a whole; and

 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Homer City Council supports the pursuit of a Rural Health Network Development Planning Program grant from the Health Resources and Service Administration for the MAPP of SKP.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Homer endorses the MAPP of the SKP collaboration as an essential element for ensuring a framework for community strategic planning and community health improvement through shared goals and collective impact.
