RESOLUTION 14-079

 

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOMER, ALASKA, SUBMITTING THE QUESTION OF THE ELECTION OF A CHARTER COMMISSION TO THE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF THE CITY AT THE OCTOBER 7, 2014 REGULAR CITY ELECTION.

 

WHEREAS, On February 4, 2014, the City Clerk reported to the Council that she had certified a petition for a charter commission as having sufficient signatures; and

 

WHEREAS, At its February 10, 2014 regular meeting, the Council determined that the charter commission election would be held at the October 7, 2014 regular City election, and that the candidate filing period for charter commission members would close on July 15, 2014; and

 

WHEREAS, As of the closing of the charter commission candidate filing period, seven petitions for qualified charter commission candidates bearing sufficient signatures had been filed, the minimum number required by law.

 

NOW, THERFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:

 

               Section 1.          The City shall submit the following proposition to the qualified voters of the City at the October 7, 2014 regular City election.  The proposition must receive an affirmative vote from a majority of the qualified voters voting on the question to be approved.

 

Proposition No. 1

Charter Commission

 

Shall a charter commission be elected to prepare a proposed charter?

 

               Section 2.         The City shall submit the election of members of a charter commission to the qualified voters of the City at the October 7, 2014 regular City election.  If Proposition No. 1 receives an affirmative vote from a majority of the qualified voters voting on the question, the seven charter commission candidates receiving the highest number of votes organize as the charter commission.
