RESOLUTION 15-009
A RESOLUTION OF THE HOMER CITY COUNCIL AMENDING THE U.S. COAST GUARD LEASE ON GOVERNMENT LOT 20 TO ADD AN ADDITIONAL 20 YEARS OF ONE-YEAR RENEWALS, AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE APPROPRIATE DOCUMENTS.
WHEREAS, The United States Coast Guard is currently in a long-term lease with the City for Government Lot 20; and
WHEREAS, The Coast Guard has secured funding for the design and construction of a cutter support building on Government Lot 20 to be completed by December 31, 2016; and
WHEREAS, By federal law the Coast Guard is required to protect the federal government’s interest in the building by ensuring exclusive use of the building for a sufficient period of time; and
WHEREAS, The current lease for Government Lot 20 is set to expire on September 30, 2023 and the Coast Guard desires to amend the lease to add twenty more renewal options; and
WHEREAS, The amendment to the Coast Guard lease of Government Lot 20 would allow them to use the building for 27 to 28 years and to meet the requirements of federal law and policy.
WHEREAS, Both the Lease Committee and the Port and Harbor Advisory Commission reviewed the lease and recommended adding the additional twenty one-year renewals.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Homer City Council hereby amends the U.S. Coast Guard lease on Government Lot 20 to add an additional 20 years of one-year renewals and authorizes the City Manager to execute the appropriate documents.
