RESOLUTION 15-109

 

A RESOLUTION OF THE HOMER CITY COUNCIL TO SUPPORT THE REPAIR AND REOPENING OF ROCKY RIVER STATE OF ALASKA ROAD EASEMENT TO THE GULF OF ALASKA.

 

WHEREAS, The City of Homer desires new economic opportunities and access to remote State and Federal lands; and

 

WHEREAS, Repair of the State of Alaska Rocky River Road easement can provide that opportunity and access; and

 

               WHEREAS, The Rocky River Road repair would grant access to remote commercial fishing grounds, adding access to Picnic Harbor to offload fish for transportation to Jakolof Bay; and

 

WHEREAS, Repaired road access would stimulate existing businesses and livelihood for lower Kenai Peninsula; and

 

WHEREAS, The repaired road will provide all walks of life easier and more affordable access to State and Federal wilderness parks through access via 17B easements to Port Dick; and

 

WHEREAS, Repaired road access would stimulate recreational guide opportunities and recreational use by all citizens of the State of Alaska; and

 

WHEREAS, The repair of the road will stimulate the social well-being and lead to a healthier more robust and vibrant lifestyle of those who live in this remote region of Alaska; and

 

WHEREAS, The road was washed out by disastrous weather events; and

 

WHEREAS, The Alaska National Guard has the resources to repair this State of Alaska easement without additional funds from the State of Alaska.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of Homer, Alaska, is in support of the repair and reopening of Rocky River State of Alaska Road Easement to the Gulf of Alaska.

 

               PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Homer City Council this 11th day of January, 2016.
