RESOLUTION 16-024

 

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HOMER, ALASKA, CALLING FOR A SPECIAL ELECTION TO BE HELD IN THE CITY ON APRIL 19, 2016, FOR THE PURPOSE OF SUBMITTING TO THE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF THE CITY A PROPOSITION ASKING THE QUESTION WHETHER MARIJUANA ESTABLISHMENTS SHALL BE PROHIBITED IN THE CITY.

 

WHEREAS, The State of Alaska voters passed Ballot Measure 2 at the November 4, 2014 regular State of Alaska election, effectively permitting marijuana establishments in the State of Alaska subject to State regulations; and

 

WHEREAS, The City of Homer voters’ support for Ballot Measure 2 at the Statewide 2014 election may not reflect the support for the operation and regulation of marijuana establishments within the City of Homer; and

 

WHEREAS, The City Council has deferred the question whether marijuana establishments shall be prohibited in the City of Homer to the voters; and

 

WHEREAS, A special election has been called for April 19, 2016 to have the qualified voters decide if marijuana establishments will be prohibited within the City of Homer.

 

NOW, THERFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that a special election in and for the City is called for April 19, 2016, at which there shall be submitted to the qualified voters of the City a proposition asking the question whether marijuana establishments shall be prohibited in the City.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is authorized and directed to prepare for and conduct the special election in accordance with the City Code.
