RE: Communication
With KPC, UAA
On
June 11, 2001 the Homer City Council was informed through an attachment to
Memorandum 01-38 that, “The University is going to begin reviewing and
developing a plan ‘B’ that would possibly include acquiring City Hall/ land for
face market value and adding onto the current facility if a legislative capital
appropriation occurs.” (Letter from
Carol Schwartz) The $3,000,000 capital project bond for the University has now
been approved.
On
November 25, 2002 University staff met with the Homer City Council to update
council members on the capital project status and to answer other questions
presented by City Council and Mayor. The University is in the process of completing design plans for
the Homer campus capital project. While
at the meeting, University staff also expressed interest in acquiring City Hall
and property in order to facilitate campus expansion westward of the present
East Campus.
The
City Manager has previously stated that, “Any proposals UAA has for property
transfers, sale, or exchange should be directed to the Council.”
Recommendation
for Action by City Council:
1.
Determine
if the transfer, sale, exchange, or some combination thereof of City Hall and
property is in the short or long term best interests of the City, and if so
2.
Direct
the Mayor to forward the attached notification letter of correspondence to the
University stating that the City of Homer is willing to entertain a proposal
for the transfer, sale, exchange or some combination thereof for City Hall and
property.
