RE: DRAFT ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT FOR LEASE SALE 191 AND 199 AND MINERAL MANAGEMENT SERVICE PUBLIC MEETING OF JANUARY 23, 2003,

The draft EIS by the U. S. Minerals Management Service brings up a lot of issues important to this community. The question is does MMS put the same values on commercial fishing, tourism, subsistence and sustainable lifestyles as we do. Our very healthy economy is based on renewable resources that are sensitive to polluting industries.

RECOMMENDATION:

I recommend that we discuss these issues and either have the mayor forward our concerns to MMS and the Borough or draft a resolution that conveys our concerns.
