SUBJECT: Resolution renaming Upland Place to Orion Circle due to similarities in street names within the Emergency Service Number area in the City of Homer, Alaska.

Background:

Within the former city limits of Homer, there is a street named Upland Court. A street named Upland Place was annexed in 2002. Because of the similarity in street names, staff determined that changing Upland Place is the best solution and would impact the fewest number of residents. There are only two residences on Upland Place. Staff spoke with one resident of Upland Place on another issue and brought up the need for a street name change. The resident recommended the proposed street name.

Staff mailed public notices to individual property owners. No comments were received. On October 1, 2003, the Homer Advisory Planning Commission held a public hearing on the proposed street name change. No comments were received at that time. The Planning Commission accepted staff report PL 03-85, recommending the Homer City Council renaming Upland Place to Orion Circle.

Recommendation:

Staff recommends adoption of the resolution renaming Upland Place to Orion Circle.
