RE:
Library Site Selection
CC:
City Manager
The
list of “twenty projects with out ranking” was approved with out
objection on
June 10th, 2002. The first project to
appear on the list was “New Public Library.”
Much discussion has been heard since that time.
In
reviewing the pivotal nature of site selection, I feel the Hazel Avenue
lots
will make an excellent location. The
proximity of the Kachemak Bay University of Alaska Campus expansion,
coupled
with the central positioning between Kenai Peninsula Homer Campuses
K-12, the
Town Square Development Project with intersecting trails system, and
the
over-all development of the Central Business District, can only be
enhanced by
the selection of these properties for the New Library.
The
diversity of the District as outlined in the Comprehensive Plan as well
as in
the preceding paragraph, will help to further attract sources of
funding. This project will provide
opportunity for
grants, endowments, gifts and
Government sources to target.
As
a resident and Council Member I encourage the City Council to not waver
or
delay in their decision to direct the Management and Staff to move
forward in
dedicating this site as the location of the New Public Library Complex.
Respectfully
