MEMORANDUM 04-48

DATE:          March 16, 2004

TO:               Mayor Cushing / Homer City Council

FROM:         Walt Wrede

SUBJECT:    KBBI / Concert on the Lawn

Len Clark, the new General Manager for KBBI contacted me recently about this year’s concert on the lawn. You will recall that last year the City agreed to move the event from the CIRI property to Karen Hornaday Park. KBBI considered the move to be a great success and wishes to know if the City will allow the concert to be in the park again this year.

The concert is tentatively scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, July 31 and August 1st. Len has already spoken with representatives of the Little League and determined that there is not a conflict. I am in the process of talking to all of the Department Heads to get their input and should have that by meeting time.

I told Len that I had not received anything but positive feedback from the City Council on last year’s event and that I did not anticipate any problems with having the concert at Karen Hornaday again this year. KBBI volunteers did a great job of organizing the event and they followed through with everything they said they would do. Attached for your information is a copy of the MOU from last year and a Memo from the Fire Chief regarding the event site plan and emergency services. Len and I have agreed that the same rules would apply this year.

RECOMMENDATION:  Approve the use of Karen Hornaday Park for the Concert on the Lawn again this year.
