SUBJECT: Resolution renaming Cowles Way to Hidden Way in the City of Homer, Alaska.

Background:

Staff received a petition from five property owners residing on Cowles Way requesting a change in the street name due to “the current name confusing to people and not easily understood when spoken. Saying the name is never enough, and even we as residents aren’t sure of the correct pronunciation.”

Staff mailed out public notices to property owners within 300 feet of the street proposed to be renamed; at packet time staff had not received any comments.

There are seventeen lots owned by thirteen property owners. Eight properties are developed, three did not have the $10,000 homeowner exemption and five owners live in their homes according to the Kenai Peninsula Borough’s Tax Assessor Rolls.

The Planning Commission accepted staff report PL 04-97, recommending the Homer City Council renaming Cowles Way to Hidden Way.

Recommendation:

Staff recommends adoption of the resolution renaming Cowles Way to Hidden Way.
