SUBJ: COWLES WAY NAMED AFTER HOMER'S FIRST MAYOR

Homer's First Mayor was Ralph Cowles. Cowles Lane was named after him. There are a myriad of other parks, trails, roadways and etcetera named for individuals in Homer's history. It appears that unless we take care to preserve history it will be forgotten. The City Council has protected the integrity of other municipal historical names either by granting those names or retaining those names of parks, trails, roadways and etcetera.

Harry's Alley is named after former Mayor Harry Greogoire.

Heath Street and Hazel Avenue are named after former Mayor Hazel Heath.

There are a myriad of other parks, trails, roadways and etcetera named for

There is attached information regarding the proposed renaming of Gjosund, which was defeated to retain the historical name.



Side Note:

The first Councilmembers were named: Dr. Fenger, Leo Rhode, Tom Shelford, Bob Kranich, Tom Crosbie and Bob Gerbitz.
