SUBJECT:             Homer Intersections

 

At the July 26, 2005 Road Standards Committee meeting the Homer Intersections Planning Study prepared by DOT was discussed.  State of Alaska DOT Traffic Engineer Scott Thomas participated telephonically and provided input and answers to questions and concerns.  The Committee made the following recommendation:

 

YOURKOWSKI/SMITH – MOVED TO RECOMMEND TO THE CITY COUNCIL: 

l.          Traffic light at Lake Street and Sterling Highway intersection as a TEMPORARY measure.

2.                   Accept the DOT Intersection Study and recommend pursuing funding for two projects:

                  *Intersections on the Sterling Highway

                  *Intersections on Pioneer Avenue.

 

Note: Scott Thomas indicated that the intersections of Health and Lake Street and the Lake Street might be separated out as a separate project.

 

VOTE:  YES.  NON OBJECTION.  UNANIMOUS CONSENT.

RECOMMENDATION:

The City Council adopt Resolution 05-87 to accept the DOT Intersection Study and pursue funding for intersection improvements on both the Sterling Highway and Pioneer Avenue.
