TO: MAYOR HORNADAY AND HOMER CITY COUNCIL
THRU: WALT WREDE, CITY MANAGER
FROM: BETH MCKIBBEN, CITY PLANNER
DATE: August 16, 2005
SUBJECT: Amendment to Homer City Code 21.60 – Supplemental Regulations, Article 1, Sign Regulations
The Planning Commission reviewed the sign code as it relates to sizes of signs permitted in the Residential Office zoning district. It should be noted this district provides for a mix of residential uses and certain specified businesses. This district is considered a transition zone between commercial and residential neighborhoods. Areas of the Residential Office zoning district are located in heavily traveled, higher speed roads such as East End, Main, and Bartlett. Many business owners in the area informed the Commission and staff that the size of signs permitted in these areas were not effective in advertising the businesses.
The Commission considered the proposed amendments to HCC 21.60 Article 1, held
a public hearing on July 20, 2005 and made amendments as recommended by staff
and the City Attorney.
Recommendation:
The Homer Advisory Planning Commission
recommends the Homer City Council adopt the ordinance as proposed.
