RE: Accepting a Staying Connected Grant from the Alaska State Library
I’m pleased to inform you that the Homer Public Library has been given the opportunity to receive $1,300.00 for new computers through the Alaska State Library’s Staying Connected Hardware and Software Enhancement grant program. The grant program is designed to increase the availability and quality of public computing services in public libraries, and is made possible through the generosity of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation with an equivalent matching amount of Alaska State Library grant funds.
The Staying Connected grant is a one-time only, non-competitive grant in the amount of $1,300.00 available to all Alaska public libraries in good standing with the State Library’s Public Library Assistance program. The grant may be used to purchase any new hardware or software for the library, as long as the purchases are dedicated to public use. The new library will have room for an additional 10 public computer workstations in the general area, and three in the children’s room. The Staying Connected grant will be used to purchase two of the proposed new computer workstations for the new library.
RECOMMENDATION: Approval of Ordinance 06-_____
