SUBJECT:       Sign Code Amendment, Gateway Business District

 

Discussion

 

On September 16, 2006, The Homer City Council adopted Ordinance 2006-51(S)(A), creating the Gateway Business District (GBD). Staff discovered that the Supplemental Regulations 21.60, Sign Code, needs to be amended to reflect the creation of this new district. Staff presented a draft ordinance to the Planning Commission at the regular meeting of January 3, 2007.  This ordinance proposed the GBD sign regulations to be the same as the Central Business District.

 

The Commission held a public hearing on this ordinance on February 7, 2007.  The HAPC amended table 1 as it applies to the GBD to not allow banners, and to require a sign permit for suspended signs.  They also amended table 3, as it applied to GBD to not allow animated, changeable copy, internally illuminated and neon signs. 

 

The attached ordinance incorporates the new district into the sign code with the amendments of the HAPC.

 

Recommendation:

 

Schedule for public hearing and adopt.
