Subject: South Douglas Place Road Reconstruction and Paving Improvement

Authorization to Award Design Contract

The City Council adopted Resolution 06-127 on September 11, 2006, finding the need to create the South Douglas Place Road Reconstruction and Paving Improvement District.

Ordinance 07-04 authorized the use of HARP funds for design and construction of the project.

Public Works has contacted William Nelson and Associates and developed a scope and budget for the design. The City has a term contract with this firm to provide engineering services over the next three years. The cost of the design of this project is $9,882. This is consistent with the approved project budget of $140,500.

William Nelson and Associates is currently designing several projects for the City and incorporation of this work into their efforts is cost effective.

Recommendation: The City Council approve the award of the design of this project to William Nelson and Associates, Kenai, Alaska in the amount of $9,882.
