Subject: Throat microphones for
use in Council Chambers
The EDC respectfully asks
that the City of Homer invest in throat microphones to be incorporated in the
existing Cowles Council Chambers sound system.
As you may know, a throat microphone is a type of microphone that picks up sound directly through sensors in contact with the neck. Because of this design, it is able to pick up speech in loud environments where other types of microphones would not function well because the speech would be drowned out by background noise. In the City Council Chambers, throat mics would solve the problem created when those seated at the Council table forget to speak directly into the fixed microphones.
It appears, from a quick look online (Amazon.com), that
throat mics range in price from $25 to $95.
