SUBJECT: Committee to work on spit comprehensive plan

The Homer Advisory Planning Commission (HAPC) wishes to move forward with the creation of an element of the Comprehensive Plan specifically addressing issues unique to the Homer Spit. After discussion at the meeting of December 3, 2008, the Planning Commission moved to request that the Mayor form a committee to forward this goal.

The motion did not recommend a specific number of members but a suggestion of the composition of such a committee was brought forth. It was moved that the committee be made up of a broad base of spit users and include two Planning and two Port and Harbor Commissioners. Several Planning Commissioners have expressed interest in working on the committee.

It is likely that several meetings will take place from spring through fall of 2009. The committee will work with Planning Staff and contractors to create a draft document for the Planning Commission. They must be able to attend focus groups and public meetings. It is likely that several meetings will take place from spring through fall of 2009. It is anticipated that this group’s contribution will be completed by the winter of 2009.
