Subject: 2009 Kachemak City Septic Tank Pumping Contract
AWARD RECOMMENDATION
On August 19, 2009, the City received a single bid for the tri-annual pumping contract for the VGES tanks in Kachemak City. The work involves the pumping and backflushing of 126 septic tanks. The work takes place within a sixty day contract period. The Invitation to Bid was advertised in the Homer News on 8/06/09 and 8/13/09. Additionally, phone contact was made with other peninsula pumping contractors to advise of the bid.
The only bid received was from Homer Septic Services for $30,000 ($238.10 per tank)
Fiscal Note - This work is paid for through a portion of the customer’s monthly sewer rate and funded under account 200.5210.504. The budget was increased for this contract from $18,000 in 2006 to $25,000 for 2009.
Recommendation - Award the City of Homer 2009 Septic Tank Pumping Contract to Homer Septic Services in the amount of $30,000. Pursue a rate increase for Kachemak City to cover the increasing costs of pumping the tanks.
