MEMORANDUM 09-40 |
|
DATE: |
April 3, 2009 |
TO: |
Walt Wrede, City Manager |
FROM: |
Mark Robl, Chief of Police |
SUBJECT: |
Recovery Act, Grant Review Request |
|
|
We
are currently in position to receive a grant of $48,412 through the Byrne
Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Formula Program administered by the US
Department of Justice. This is part of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
of 2009. The two grant purpose areas that are most appropriate for the Homer
Police Department are the Law Enforcement Programs and Technology Improvement
Programs.
We
have the need for some radio system improvements that fit well within the
purpose areas. I have attached a copy of the program narrative from the
application I submitted to claim the grant funds that are currently set aside
for us.
The
grant requires that we make the grant application public and give the public
the opportunity to comment on it. The grant also requires that we make the
application available for review by our governing body not fewer than thirty
days before the application is submitted. Since the deadline for submitting
this grant is May 18th, I request that we ask the council to review
our application at our next council meeting and have an opportunity for the
public to comment on it at that time.
