SUB JECT:  REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF BISHOPS BEACH PICNIC SHELTER

During the 2009 CIP process the need to repair or replace the often used, but potentially unsafe, community picnic shelter at Bishops Beach was discussed.  The City Council agreed that we could deal with the issue within our existing budget, rather than list it as one of Cities priorities for funding on our CIP list.  A dollar amount of up to $50,000 was discussed as an acceptable budget amount.

Clearly the roof support posts are now less than vertical, and as Spring rolls around and the ground softens up again the posts will probably lean over a little more.  So, now would be a good time to address the problem, before the roof structure pops its support posts and ends up on top of the picnic tables.  The project could be done in house, or if the project is too time consuming for city personnel the RFP process could be used.  I seem to remember that the last time major repairs were made it was a community group project, though most of the work was done by one man and his wife, and it looked pretty good when they were done.

RECOMMENDATION:

The City Manager would discuss feasibility of repair or replacement with City Engineer and Public Works.  If repair or replacement cannot be done in house the City Manager would Draft an RFP for City Council review and approval.

Fiscal Note:  Up to $50,000.
