Construction Contract Award Recommendations

Public Works opened bids for the above referenced project on June 21. Three bids were received.

Bidder Office Location Bid

Statewide Commercial Electric Anchorage, AK $ 34,250

Puffin Electric Homer, AK $ 31,427

Steiner’s North Star Construction Homer, AK $ 23,000 (apparent low bidder)

Engineer’s Estimate $ 28,500

Public Works has reviewed the bids. The low bidder is Steiner’s North Star Construction, Homer, AK. The low bidder’s qualifications have been reviewed and they have been determined to be qualified to complete this project. This project was bid with the City’s 5% local bidders preference requirements. The low bidder is a local bidder (office within City limits).

The project budget approved by the City Council is $69,000. The low bid received will put total project cost within the project budget:

Engineering $ 9,075

Purchase Generator $ 28,189

Installation $ 23,000

Inspection $ 2,600

Total Project Cost $ 62,864

Recommendation: The City Council award the construction contract for this project to Steiner’s North Star Construction of Homer, AK in the amount of $23,000 and authorize the City Manager to execute all appropriate documents.
