Session
02-20, a Special Meeting of the Homer City Council was called to order at 7:30
p.m. by Mayor Jack Cushing at the Homer City Hall Council Chambers located at
491 E Pioneer Avenue, Homer, Alaska, and opened with the Pledge of Allegiance.
The
Council's Committee of the Whole met from 4:05 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., agenda items
were the Lease Policy, Community Survey and the regular meeting agenda items.

OATH OF OFFICE/INSTALLATION OF NEWLY ELECTED
OFFICIALS.
City Clerk Calhoun
administered the Oath of Office to Mayor elect, Jack Cushing for a two year
term, and Councilmembers elect; Michael
Yourkowski and Rose Beck for three year terms, Doug Stark for a two year term
and Ray Kranich and Rick Ladd for a one year terms.
COMMENTS OF THE AUDIENCE

COMMENTS OF THE CITY ATTORNEY
City Attorney Tans was not present.
COMMENTS OF THE CITY CLERK
City Clerk Calhoun congratulated the newly elected
officials.
COMMENTS OF THE CITY MANAGER
City Manager Drathman welcomed all on board.
COMMENTS OF THE MAYOR
Mayor Cushing stated that he looks forward to working
with this Council and “let’s go for it”.
COMMENTS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
Councilmember Fenske welcomed all on board.
Mayor Cushing told Councilmember Fenske that it is
nice to be back with him.
Councilmember Beck stated that it is a pleasure to be
“here”.
Councilmember Stark commented that on or about March
20, the day he formally came into the City, they were going to a movie and got
up to, approximately, the intersection of East Hill and Skyline Drive at the
1,000 foot level, and while looking down at the City, that he was now a part
of, on that crystal clear night, in the winter, noted that it was beautiful
seeing all the lights. He relayed to the Council that he is honored to be a
part of Homer, a part of the Council and thanked those who did and did not
elect him, because they are all his constituents. He voiced his opinion that
this is a great Council and that they are going to do really wonderful things
in the next years to come.
There were some comments regarding his lapel button,
that he got at the Soldotna AML a few years back, that says, “ Next to Heaven,
Homer, Alaska”.
Mr. Stark stated that when he saw that button he
thought, well that is next to where I live, right next to Homer and that is
heaven. Now it is a part of the City where he lives.
Councilmember Beck, interjected, “and still is
heaven”.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to come before the
Council the Special Meeting was adjourned at 7:37 p.m. The Regular meeting was
called to order immediately thereafter.
