ORDINANCE 03-26

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOMER, ALASKA, APPROPRIATING AN ALASKA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AND PUBLIC FACILITIES - STATEWIDE PLANNING GRANT IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $171,000.00 TO DEVELOP A CORRIDOR MANAGEMENT PLAN FOR THE STERLING HIGHWAY, SCENIC BYWAY AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE APPROPRIATE DOCUMENTS.

WHEREAS, The City of Homer, City Staff, Mayor and Council have supported the Scenic Byway Program and promoted the Sterling Highway's nomination as a Scenic Byway; and

WHEREAS, City Staff attended a training workshop in New Mexico regarding the Scenic Byways Program; and

WHEREAS, Council has commented that planning of and for the Scenic Byway is essential; and

WHEREAS, The Mayor and Council indicated their desire to pursue the National Designation for the Anchor Point/Homer Scenic Byway as well as their desire to investigate expanding the boundary; and

WHEREAS, The City of Homer will have lead responsibility for developing the Corridor Management Plan for the Sterling Highway and the plan will document the route's scenic, natural, recreational, historical and cultural values and provide recommedations to preserve them.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City of Homer :

Section 1. That the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities Statewide Planning - Scenic Byways Grant is hereby appropriated as follows and that the City Manager is authorized to execute the appropriate documents:
