[ EMERGENCY ]ORDINANCE 05-52(A)
AN [EMERGENCY] ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOMER, ALASKA,
APPROPRIATING $5,000.00 FROM THE GENERAL FUND - FUND BALANCE TO SEND
TO NEW ORLEANS FOR DISASTER AID TO THE VICTIMS OF THE KATRINA
HURRICANE DISASTER AND THAT THE CITY MANAGER IS AUTHORIZED TO
FORWARD THIS MONEY IN THE MOST EXPEDITIOUS WAY POSSIBLE.
WHEREAS, The aftermath of Hurricane Katrina to the New Orleans area is horrendously
devastating; and
WHEREAS, Emergency Relief Organizers are recommending that donations be in monetary form
rather than subsistence supplies to alleviate storage space and potential waste and to better
facilitate meeting Victim's needs; and
WHEREAS, In March 1964 other states and municipalities assisted Homer and Alaska in
recovering efforts from the Earthquake; and
WHEREAS, In March 1989 other states and municipalities assisted Homer and Alaska in
recovering from the EXXON VALDEZ Oil Spill; and
WHEREAS, In the fall of 2002 Homer and Alaska received assistance with regard to the damage from the 100 Year Flood.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City of Homer :
Section 1. That $5,000.00 shall be appropriated and sent to New Orleans for disaster relief as follows:

Section 2. That the City Manager is authorized to forward this appropriation of $5,000.00 in the
most expeditious way possible. To send relief money to Homer, Louisiana as Sister City in
area of crisis there.
[Section 3. This Ordinance is an Emergency Ordinance, it is effective upon adoption and is
effective for sixty days following adoption, statement of facts and findings are as follow:
a. Victims of the Katrina Hurricane disaster are in immediate need of relief; and
b. These funds need to be sent to New Orleans as expeditiously as possible.]
