Meeting Synopsis

 


Session 07-11 a meeting of the Public Arts Committee was called to order by Chair Newby at 11:30 am on November 15, 2007 in the City Hall Cowles Council Chambers located at 491 E. Pioneer Avenue, Homer Alaska.

Present: Chair Angie Newby, Co-Chair, Gaye Wolfe, Trina Fellows, Karin Marks, Hope Finklestein, Dave Anderson

Absent:  Mike Yourkowski

Staff: Dru Corbin

CALL TO ORDER

APPROVAL OF AGENDA - Agenda approved

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES - Approval of October 19th minutes

VISITORS:  none

 

STAFF & COUNCIL REPORT/COMMITTEE REPORTS/BOROUGH REPORTS  

           Dru reported art budget of $4000 still in draft budget. There has been no discussion as of yet to remove or change it.

 

PUBLIC HEARING  -  none

 

PENDING BUSINESS

  1. Poopdeck signs - ongoing until it can be hopefully become part of the Town Center area  - not discussed Angie mentioned to take it off as other pressing things are coming.
  2. City Hall/Town Center – Prior to this meeting, at the 10:00 work session, Bob Brandt discussed the plans and had a recommendation on the makeup of the 1% art selection committee from Brian Meissner, with ECI Hyer. 
  3. Triangle Park - no discussion
  4. Cataloging current city art - Brief information from Gaye and Trina that they started to collect information on art at City Hall. They still have the council chambers to do and will have done before the next meeting.
  5. Resolution increasing cap for the art for City Hall/Town Center project - no discussion
  6. Steering Committee appointment:  It was agreed that Gaye would present her application as a member of the PAC to the city hall/town plaza committee.  Unanimous consent.
  7. In worksession Bob Brant explained recommendation for 1% art selection committee, and after discussion final decision:
    • Architect  - Bob Brandt (Contractor)
    • Contractor – Brian Meissner (Lead Architect)
    • Staff – Ben Gibson (project manager)
    • Staff – Dru to work on staff person
    • Steering committee – Angie Newby - tentative
    • Steering committee – thoughts from the committee directed by Angie
    • Artist – Asia Freeman
    • 2 Public users –  names given: Rachel Livingston, Maryanne Aplin, Amy Alderfer, Devony, Terry Thompson
    • PAC member – Hope Finkelstein
    • PAC member – Karin Marks

 

Motion to accept the above 10 appointments for members of the 1% art selection committee.  Names of any given above will be accepted.

 

Motion carried unanimous

 

Karin asked if they were just to show up at next meeting and Angie advised yes at 11am December 10th.  They will be meeting with the design team.

 

NEW BUSINESS

  1. Dru advised that the 2008 meeting schedule needed to be approved or amended.  Motion made to accept, seconded and passed unanimously as written.
