RESOLUTION 00-28



A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOMER, ALASKA COMMENDING BRANTLEY, JOAN AND VELMA EDENS FOR THEIR CONTRIBUTION OF $15,000 TO THE CITY OF HOMER IN MEMORY OF CHARLES B. ABBOTT AND RICHARD W. EDENS.



WHEREAS, the Edens have been long time residents of Homer, Brantley and Joan came to Homer as children in the 1930s and Velma came to Homer in the 50s as a bride of Dick Edens; and



WHEREAS, for years Brantley and Dick operated the bulk fuel plant on the Homer Spit after the previous owner's, Charles B. Abbott, death and later incorporated as Terminal Oil Sales, Inc. and subsequently sold the plant to Petro Marine Services; and

WHEREAS, the Edens have contributed to the Community many times and in many ways including emergency fuel deliveries in the cold winter months, working in and providing monetary support to community churches, serving on the Council's Advisory Commissions, serving on election boards, and many community volunteer clubs; and



WHEREAS, the Edens have always had compassionate hearts toward people of the community and their needs; and



WHEREAS, the Edens, Brantley, Joan and Velma have contributed $15,000 to the City of Homer in memory of Charles B. Abbott and Richard W. Edens and requested that this be distributed in the following manner:



$5,000 to the Homer Library

5,000 to the Pratt Museum

$2,500 to the Volunteer Fire Department

$2,500 to the South Peninsula Hospital Physical Therapy Unit; and



WHEREAS, it is the City of Homer's great pleasure to accommodate this request and to recognize the Edens for their many years of contributions to the community of Homer over the years.



NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Homer City Council that the Brantley, Joan and Velma Edens are hereby commended for their contribution of $15,000 to the City of Homer in memory of Charles B. Abbott and Richard W. Edens.



PASSED and ADOPTED by the City Council of Homer, Alaska this 28th day of February, 2000.
