A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HOMER SUPPORTING DON YOUNG'S HB 701 AND SENATOR MURKOWSKI'S SB 25, THE CONSERVATION AND REINVESTMENT ACT.
WHEREAS, the City of Homer is the tenth largest City in the State of Alaska; and
WHEREAS, many expenses of the City of Homer are directly attributable to our coastline exposure similar to thousands of cities nationwide; and
WHEREAS, Homer is the pilot station for all lower and upper Cook Inlet freighter and oil tanker shipping; and
WHEREAS, Homer is a major commercial fishing, charter fishing, educational and environmental studies center; and
WHEREAS, these acts provide for funding sources to deal with the impacts of coastal exposure and other costs of outer continental shelf related activities on these cities and municipalities; and
WHEREAS, our Alaska Delegation has done tremendous work sponsoring and advancing these bills on behalf of the coastal communities of the nation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Homer give strong thanks to our congressional delegation for sponsoring and advancing these bills; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Homer will continue to work on behalf of these bills and will lobby, as possible, to individuals and organizations that may help promote these bills to be enacted.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Homer and the area citizens will continue to provide input on a case by case basis of local area federal oil leases.
