A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOMER, ALASKA AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER, IN COOPERATION WITH THE TOWN SQUARE COMMITTEE, THE HOMER TRAILS COMMITTEE, THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT AND PARKS AND RECREATION TO FACILITATE THE CREATION OF A TRAIL CONNECTING THE POOPDECK TRAIL TO HEATH STREET VIA THE NORTHERNMOST 100 FEET OF THE CITY OWNED LOTS ON HAZEL AVENUE.
WHEREAS, Homer's Comprehensive Plan Update calls for "an interconnecting system of bikeways, sidewalks and trails"; and
WHEREAS, public input at the Townsquare Committee meetings and the results of a recent public survey indicate strong support for improved bicycle and pedestrian facilities as well as public art in downtown Homer; and
WHEREAS, this trail would compliment th Homer Trails Committee's and the Homer Townsquare's master trails vision; and
WHEREAS, with the cooperation of the City and the energy of volunteers this trail could be built at little cost to the City; and
WHEREAS, public art areas could easily be incorporated into the design; and
WHEREAS, this trail would be used and enjoyed by the citizens of Homer.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Homer City of Council authorizes the City Manager, in cooperation with the Townsquare Committee, the Homer Trails Committee, the Public Works Department and Parks and Recreation to facilitate the creation of a trail connecting the Poopdeck Trail to Heath Street via the northern most 100 feet of City owned lots on Hazel Avenue.
