A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF HOMER ENCOURAGING THE KENAI PENINSULA BOROUGH TO PLACE THE PROPOSITION FOR A HOMER AREA FIRE SERVICE AREAON THE FALL 2000 BALLOT.

WHEREAS, the City of Homer has encouraged, in the past, the formation of a Fire Service Area for the Homer area outside the City; and

WHEREAS, as enough citizens of this area have deemed it necessary to gather the signatures to bring this matter to a vote; and

WHEREAS, although the City of Homer is currently considering annexation of certain of the areas in the proposed service area:

1) Significant parts of the proposed service area are outside of areas under consideration for annexation,

2) The city may modify for smaller annexation areas,

3) The state may modify for a smaller or no annexation area,

4) The city may withdraw the petition,

5) The legislature may deny the petition.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Homer would like to see this issue on the fall 2000 ballot for residents of the proposed service area; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution is not to imply an intent to frustrate current work by the City of Homer concerning the annexation issue; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that any commitment by the City of Homer to participate in providing services to any created service areas will depend on, City boundaries created during this annexation process, and future negotiated terms of contract between the City and the created service area.
