A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HOMER, ALASKA SUPPORTING THE KACHEMAK NORDIC SKI CLUB AND THE KACHEMAK HERITAGE LAND TRUST IN THEIR EFFORTS TO OBTAIN A GRANT FROM THE STATE'S TRAIL AND RECREATIONAL ACCESS FOR ALASKA (TRAAK) PROGRAM FOR TRAIL HEAD DEVELOPMENT.
WHEREAS, a proposed development in the Baycrest Hill Ski area will negatively impact the trail head at Rogers Loop; and
WHEREAS, trail heads provide access to trail systems for visitors and area residents; and
WHEREAS, approximately 250 ski club families, 500 non members and 125 local students use the ski club trails annually; and
WHEREAS, both the Kachemak Heritage Land Trust and the Kachemak Nordic Ski Club have received the Governor's TRAAK Award for Excellence; and
WHEREAS, this grant proposal is consistent with the City's 1999 Overall Economic Development Plan to promote recreational and tourism opportunities on a year round basis and to maintain the quality of life for year round residents.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of Homer, Alaska hereby supports the efforts of the Kachemak Nordic Ski Club and the Kachemak Heritage Land Trust to obtain grant funding for trail head development through the State's Trail and Recreation a Access for Alaska Program.
