RESOLUTION 01-76

 

A RESOLUTION OF THE HOMER CITY COUNCIL SUPPORTING THE APPLICATION FOR THE STATE OF ALASKA DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FY2002 MINI-GRANT PROGRAM FOR THE PURCHASE OF A ZAMBONI MACHINE.

 

            WHEREAS the State of Alaska Department of Community and Economic Development Mini-Grant Program provides funding for economic development projects; and

 

WHEREAS, the Homer Hockey Association has received grants through the Capital Matching Grant and USDA programs and through fund raising for construction of a new ice rink; and

 

WHEREAS, the Kenai Peninsula Borough Economic Development District completed an economic impact study of ice rinks in 1996 showing that this type of facility can provide $200,000 to $400,000 in revenues to local economies; and

 

WHEREAS, the Homer Hockey Association is requesting funding through the Mini-Grant program to purchase a used, re-conditioned Zamboni machine to maintain the ice rink; and

 

WHEREAS, a Zamboni will allow skaters a clean and even skating surface, maintain the ice at an even thickness to allow the refrigeration system to maintain a constant ice temperature and thickness and save energy for the cooling process.

 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED the City of Homer supports the application for the State of Alaska Department of Community and Economic Development FY2002 Mini-Grant program for the purchase of a Zamboni machine.

 

PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Homer City Council on this 22nd day of October 2001.
